Rehabilitation Psychology Programs
Most rehabilitation psychologists earn a doctorate degree in rehabilitation psychology. This degree provides students with the skills, tools and training required to provide rehabilitation services to patients suffering from a variety of mental, emotional or physical disabilities. Most colleges and universities do not offer a specific degree in rehabilitation psychology, rather they provide psychology degrees with specializations in rehabilitation psychology and counseling.
If you want to launch a career as a rehabilitation psychologist or counselor the first step is to earn your bachelor's degree in psychology from an accredited schools. This is a prerequiste for admittance into most graduate degree programs. Once you've earned you bachelor's degree you'll then need to earn a master's degree, or preferrably Ph.D. or Psy.D. in psychology. Courses you migh expect to take in a graduate level rehabilitation psychology programs or specialization include social psychology, foundations of rehabilitation counseling, theories of psychotherapy, intervention, addictive disorders, professional ethics and issues, case management, vocational rehabilitation and research methodology.
